STAR PREVIEW: Bayern Munich v Arsenal

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]istorically, Iโ€™ve always wanted to be low on the goal count at this stage of the Champions League but times they may be a changing.

Certainly, the PSG 4-0 demolition job on the team formerly known as Barcelona was hard to predict and we may see the goals flow again tonight at the Allianz Arena as the hosts attempt to build up a lead to take back to the Emirates.

The last time these two sides met in Germany it finished 5-1 to Bayern Munich in the 2015-16 Champions League tournament when Bayern were probably a better team and Arsenal were, well Arsenal.

Bayern are not exactly having a bad season – leading RP Leipzig by seven points in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt a further seven points in third. They are finishing like three mile chasers in heavy ground at Cheltenham.

No awards to see Arsenal sitting 4th in the Premier League but a good spin in the Champions League could provide plenty of late season drama for the Gunners faithful.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina keeps his place in preference to Petr Cech but Mesut Ozil could be dropped after his down turn in form.

Bayern are re-united with Xabi Alonso after the Spanish midfielder recovered from a knock to the knee that had forced him out of training on Monday.

However, Carlo Ancelotti looks set to be without central defender Jerome Boateng and winger Franck Ribery.
