STAR PREVIEW: Bolton Wanderers v West Brom

Bolton managed to shock West Brom back in August but the two sides have gone in completely different directions and the Baggies can keep pace with their promotion rivals with a win tonight.

It was an unwelcome return to the division when Yanic Wildschut stole victory for Bolton on the first weekend of the season but West Brom are now fourth and still within chasing distance of a top two spot, even with Leeds and Norwich looking so strong. Bolton are second from bottom and in serious trouble – despite the lifting of a player registration embargo.

Somehow there is still hope for Bolton โ€“ who took 15 points from their first 10 games before their slide – given that they are just three points adrift of safety after a weekend when relegation rivals Reading, Rotherham and Ipswich all lost but they have won just one of their last 17 fixtures.

That one win was against fellow relegation rivals Rotherham and they have lost their last two to Hull City (6-0) and Bristol City (2-1). The problems off the pitch โ€“ they have two petitions reportedly looming and a potential third to be filed by Forest Green Rovers โ€“ have clearly had an effect and this is not a good time for the visit of promotion chasers.

West Brom havenโ€™t won in their last three but two of those were draws against third placed Sheffield Wednesday and second placed Norwich City and points were deserved in both games.

Dwight Gayle (14) and Jay Rodriguez (13) have 27 of West Bromโ€™s 55 goals โ€“ the highest in the division โ€“ between them and Everton loanee Mason Holgate gives them a little more quality heading into the box to spearhead attacks. West Brom have won four of their last five away games in the league and they have the quality to keep themselves in the title race too.
