Celtic are the proverbial big fish in a small pond domestically and had their limitations ruthlessly exposed at the hands of Barcelona in their first Group match earlier this month.

Back in the league, it was normal service resumed for Celtic who beat Kilmarnock 6-1 on Saturday.

Man City, in contrast, are a winning machine this season with the perfect 10/10 under Pep Guardiola. Bizarrely their toughest game came against Sunderland on the first day of the season when an 87th minute own goal sealed the three points for City.

Since then it has been smooth sailing, including an impressive 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 in their Champions League opener.

They now bid for a record 11th straight victory at the start of the season but Guardiola is more conncered about tonight’s game. He said: “Believe me, I’m not focused on this little record, because another team will come and beat the record in the future.

“What I want is to play good, to continue what we did in the last months, many things we did really well and aspects we can improve [and] do it to win the game.

“My happiness as a coach is to see the team getting better. Every game is hard. A win helps to win more. Confidence is a real aspect for our development and how we want to play.”

City will be without midfielders Kevin de Bruyne and Fabian Delph, captain Vincent Kompany and goalkeeper Angus Gunn, all through injury.
