It has been a turbulent season at Chelsea – isn’t that always the case? – but they’ve still got a chance of silverware in the shape of the Europa League and they can give themselves a strong chance of being in the quarter-finals with a first leg victory over Dynamo Kiev at Stamford Bridge tonight.
The layers are expectant, with just 2/7 on offer at starsports.bet for Chelsea to take a first leg advantage, although Dynamo Kiev ought to offer a sterner test than Malmo did in the last 16. Kiev have made it through to this stage through a string of impressive away results, including wins at Rennes and Astana in the group stages, before a 2-2 draw at Olympiakos in the last 32.
So they are not to be underestimated and Chelsea will have to keep an eye on Viktor Tsyshankov, who has 11 goals to his name in all competitions this term and is already building a reputation as Kiev’s Hazard, able to play either in the centre or on the wing. Vitaliy Mykolenko, a marauding left back, is also able to cause problems heading forward.
So there is plenty for Chelsea to be wary about, but the Blues also have plenty of their own weapons heading forward, and they are in reasonable form. It’s been nearly a month since the nadir of their 6-0 defeat to Manchester City but they bounced back from that in admirable fashion to take the League Cup to penalties and in-between they managed to beat Malmo 5-1 over two legs on aggregate. They have also won their last two in the league, with hard-fought London Derby successes over Tottenham and Fulham.
A similar team to the one that beat Malmo can be expected here given the presence of Wolves in the league looming on Sunday, but Ross Barkley, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud were all scorers in a 3-0 victory against Malmo in the second leg and the latter named pair have been taking all the chances they can get with gusto.
