STAR PREVIEW: Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship with BLUE HORSESHOE

I don’t know about you, golf fans, but I found the US Open absolutely exhausting and I was only watching the bloody thing! Well done to Bryson De Chambeau. I hope this is not the end for shot making and artistry in professional golf, although I don’t think De Chambeau gets the credit he deserves for his short game, particularly his putting, which is quite outstanding.

This week we are in the Domican Republic for the longest named tournament of the year.

The PGA Tour has visited here once before with Graham McDowell coming out on top. This 7,600 yard par 72 course was also a stop on the Korn Ferry tour with Nate Lashley and Dominic Bozzelli, both coming out as champions. Those winners all scream second ball strikers, so that’s where I’m going this week, with a view to recent form as well. As can be expected straight after the US Open this is a weak field, so a few of the nearly men most definitely have their chance to break their duck on the PGA Tour this week.

Blue Horseshoe Loves

Corey Conners – currently at 18/1 with

We all know how testing the track at Winged Foot was last week and Conners acquitted himself extremely well. This course will feel like a doddle for him by comparison and it is much better suited to his strong second shot game. Unless he gets off to a shocker i struggle to see how he won’t be in the picture come Sunday

Sam Burns – currently at 18/1 with

Burns let a major opportunity to win his first PGA Tour event when blowing a final round lead against veteran Stewart Cink at the Safeway Open two weeks ago. Burns managed his final round very poorly and as frustrated as I was at him, having tipped him, I am going to stick with Burns, because he clearly has the game to win on tour. I just hope he has the brains and leaned from his experience at the Safeway.

Adam Long – currently at 25/1 with

Long is an underrated player with an excellent iron game. He won on the PGA Tour for the first time last year and has been trending well again lately. This layout should suit his game.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat – currently at 100/1 with

Although he hasn’t been showing a great deal of form of late, 100/1 is fantastic each way value for the former world top fifty player. He is a whizz with the irons and the putter and if he starts well, his class could pull him through for an outstanding pay day for his backers

Tim Wilkinson – currently at 160/1 with

Wikinson again featured at the top of the leader board for much of the Safeway Open only to be let down by a poor final round. His game is all about second shot iron play and putting and I think he is trending well for a good return for a place or maybe even a win.
