The football league returns after the international break and we could have an interesting encounter with Derby facing Cardiff in the Championship tonight.
Derby made an excellent start to their season with a well-earned 2-1 victory over Huddersfield but life has since become tougher for their new manager Phillip Cocu, who hasn’t had much success since. The Rams entered the International break with back to back 3-0 defeats and the scoreline could have been much worse when they were beaten at Brentford in the second of those two games, losing the shot count 22-5 in a game that was incredibly one sided.
They were not that much better in a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest the week before and whilst returning to Pride Park is likely to help matters, it’s clear Derby are struggling to replace the quality of their three loan stars Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Harry Wilson, and that difference has had a marked effect this season.

Cardiff have also struggled a little – the relegated Bluebirds have won two, drawn two and lost two of their first six league fixtures – but they performed reasonably well when taking a point from their clash with Fulham before the international break and the week before that they had the better of their draw with Blackburn.
Neither of the two teams makes huge appeal in the match markets, with Derby having been dominated twice before the international break whilst Cardiff haven’t hit their best form just yet. The best route into the game could be goals – in 12 games between the pair, Derby and Cardiff have kept just two clean sheets between them. Eight of those games had over 2.5 goals, and that could be the best bet here.
