STAR PREVIEW: England v New Zealand with RYAN SIDEBOTTOM

They’ve done it !!!! England are in the Cricket World Cup Final on Sunday thanks to a demolition job against the Aussies and I hope you followed me in on the semi-final recommended bets which yielded a profit of 11.81 points.

England were also my outright bet for the tournament at 2/1 with starsports.bet but I’m kicking myself for not putting up New Zealand as well. Particularly, after saying: “New Zealand could do better than their price suggests – they have a great competitive side.”

Hope that doesn’t come back to haunt me on Sunday 😉

The best news of the week is that the final will be free to air on Sunday. Well done SKY and Channel 4 who have combined to make this happen. I’m a great advocate for cricket being free to watch – it grows a future audience in the sport and this has got to be in best long term interests of the game.

Just make sure you get the shopping in before Sunday. Beers, BBQ and batteries for the TV remote control. What a Sunday of sport ahead with the Cricket World Cup Final, Men’s Final from Wimbledon and the British Grand Prix from Silverstone and they are ALL free to air !!!

England have done so well to turn things around in the World Cup. It wasn’t looking at all rosy after successive defeats Sri Lanka and Australia but after wins in their final group games against India and New Zealand the momentum surge continued through to Edgbaston where they made a dream 14-3 start.

New Zealand’s defeat of India was the match so far of the tournament and again proved how resilient the Black Caps can be. I think they relish the role of the underdog and in Kane Williamson they have one of the world’s very best batsman.

The first thing I Googled was the weather for Sunday. Light cloud and a gentle breeze is forecast at Lord’s and thankfully rain is unlikely, at the moment.

England lost the toss at Edgbaston but still went on to win well. I still think whoever wins the spin on Sunday will opt to bat first.

In terms of match sixes I probably want to be on the low side given that the wicket is likely to be bang centre at Lord’s and with so much at stake.

For top runscorers JOE ROOT (11/4) and MARTIN GUPTILL (3/1) can hopefully finish the tournament nicely for us whilst CHRIS WOAKES (7/2) and LOCKIE FERGUSON (7/2) will hopefully get busy with the wickets.

It’s been great previewing the Cricket World Cup for starsports.bet. I’ll be back for the Ashes. No rest for the wicked – the first Ashes Test is on 1 August !!!
