STAR PREVIEW: Everton v Atalanta

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ometimes last goals DO go in your favour !!! Delighted with Sheffield Wednesday’s last gasp equaliser last night to land the DRAW recommendation in their game against Ipswich.

Tonight’s Europa League clash between Everton and Atalanta (8.05pm) could be something of a damp squib given the hosts are already out of the tournament. Their Premier League form has been woeful and they were brushed aside by Atalanta 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in September.

Add to the mix that Atalanta DO have something to play for…. a win would secure their place in the knockout round. They are without defeat so far (W2 D2) and have also scored the most goals in Group E (8).

Certainly Atalanta at around 5/4 make plenty of appeal in a match that Everton could well do without and they will surely deem Sunday’s away trip to Southampton far more important given their perilous position three points off the foot of the table.

Confidence in the Toffee’s is further rattled by the fact that they have still failed to appoint a permanent manager with caretaker manager David Unsworth still at the helm. Unsworth took over from when Koeman was dismissed and has so far overseen three losses and a draw so his slim hopes of getting the job permanently have surely evaporated.

Unsworth said: “We are going to pick a team to win, a strong team that we we feel is the right one. We will be respectful to our fans.

“We put on the Everton shirt and we’re fully respectful of that.”
