STAR PREVIEW: Everton v West Ham

Everton and West Ham have both had troubles of late and their clash at Goodison on Sunday could be one of the more entertaining games of the weekend.

Everton had questions over them heading into the season with Marco Silva coming off a rocky campaign with Watford, but they have started well and arguably should have more than seven points, with missed opportunities against Huddersfield (had the better chances in a tight game) and Bournemouth (had a two-goal lead and held back for a draw) in their two most recent Premier League fixtures.

Picking up the winning trail shouldn’t be an issue on the basis of their performances so far, but injuries could hinder them – Everton could be without 12 players for this match. Seamus Coleman suffered a stress fracture in his foot with Ireland, the in-form Richarlison is still suspended after being sent off away at Bournemouth, and Theo Walcott is also struggling through injury. These woes are compounded by the fact that Dominic Calvert-Lewin lasted just eight minutes of the England Under-21s game against Latvia before limping out with an ankle injury and none of the new signings made on deadline day were available.

West Ham’s woes stretch as far as the eye can see. They are pointless after four games and have a difficult fixture list ahead, and the situation at the London Stadium is chaotic. Amongst the infighting, a Twitter account with the handle @ExWHUemployee has revealed the team for more than 60 matches in succession and Pellegrini is now trying to stop the leaks as his team struggle to impose themselves on games.

With even a half-fit side Everton would be a very strong bet here and they still make more appeal than West Ham given that they probably should have 10 points at least on the basis of their performances. This does not look to be a game where defences will be on top given Everton’s injuries and West Ham’s defensive shape and it could be a high scoring game.
