STAR PREVIEW: Hero World Challenge with BLUE HORSESHOE

Here we are in the first event of the 2019-20 season that includes most of the big guns of the game. This is the fifth time the Albany Course in the Bahamas has hosted the Hero World Challenge and it’s an interesting enough track. The Ernie Els designed par 72 links type layout, has five par fives, five par threes and eight par fours.

That means anyone with a good long game is at a distinct advantage. And two of my three selections have that factor in mind.

Bubba Watson currently at: 40/1 with starsports.bet

Bubba LOVES his par fives. He is one of the PGA tour’s leading exponents of eagle scoring on par fives. He also won this event in 2015 with a hugely impressive twenty-five under par. Ok Bubba can be streaky and he can drive you to drink with his inconsistency, but when he is on there’s still few that can love with his ability and shot making ability. He’s also a very decent scrambler. I only hope his putting stands up. That all being said, I personally think Bubba Watson is mad money at around 30-1 in this small invitation only field.

Xander Schauffele currently at 9/1 with starsports.bet

You many not think Xander Schauffele would suit a big long par five dominated course, but Xander is sneaky long, and he seems to love coastal and links type courses having played very well at The Open and in Hawaii. His iron play is rock solid and his putting stroke is one of the best in the game, so if he puts himself in position expect to see him right up at the business end of the tournament come Saturday.

P.S. I predict a very big year for this kid. I think he wins his first major in 2020.

Gary Woodland currently at 18/1 with starsports.bet

Gary Woodland is two things; Straight and Loooong. He played very well is Asia last month and looks to be coming nicely into form. Woodland’s US Open winning hangover has definitely worn off now and I think will be right up to mixing it with the big hitters here this weekend
