STAR PREVIEW: Leeds United v Derby County

Leeds managed to defy a load of injuries and the suspension of Patrick Bamford to deal a negative blow to our balance at the weekend, but they can finish the job with victory at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa went into the weekend with five first team players missing including three of his back four but Leeds were deserving of a 1-0 victory there. Kemar Roofe’s 15th goal of the season was the difference between the teams and whilst Derby were enraged that assistant referee Eddie Smart persuaded referee Craig Pawson to overturn his award of a penalty to the Rams with 14 minutes to go, they were second best on the pitch.

Leeds didn’t allow the Rams to have a single shot on target and came away with an impressive 56% of possession, won the shot count 15-7 and also had eight corners compared to just one for the hosts. Indeed, the tie would most likely be over had Pablo Hernandez missed the ball from six yards out after Jamie Shackleton’s cutback.

Rams fans will not be sad to see the back of injured Kemar Roofe. The winning goal scorer in the first leg has scored 32 goals for Leeds since joining in the summer of 2016 – 12.5% of those have come against Derby County – but where he’s absent, Patrick Bamford, who has returned from his suspension.
