STAR PREVIEW: Leicester City v Aston Villa

Aston Villa managed to put a big dent in Leicester’s season with their League Cup semi-final win and they could cause the Foxes more trouble with a result in their Premier League clash.

Brendan Rogers’ men have had a fine season so far and still have a huge amount to play for, sitting third in the Premier League table whilst also being in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup to boot. However, 2020 has been difficult for them. They’ve won just five games this year, with two of them coming against lower league opposition in the FA Cup, and their 1-0 win against Birmingham in the FA Cup saw their first goal in 387 minutes.

Aston Villa – who were fortunate to make it to Wembley in the EFL Cup – haven’t been in the best of form recently, having lost to Bournemouth, Tottenham and Southampton before their 2-1 defeat in the Carabao Cup final. They fought hard against City, but the final score-line probably flattered them in the end.

However, they should not fear heading to the King Power. Leicester have won only once in their last seven, scored just once in nearly their last 400 minutes of football, and haven’t seen the best from key midfielder James Maddison for several weeks now. It looks possible that other teams have best worked out how to play Brendan Rogers’ side and Villa have used those tactics successfully already in the League Cup.

Now they were lucky to get through there, as said before – but Leicester don’t appear to be recovering their best form. Villa arrive here 25 points behind the hosts but that didn’t stop Norwich from managing to make Leicester look ordinary when they beat them 1-0 and the hosts look far too short on all known form here. Leicester have won only three of their last nine games at home and are worth taking on.
