The Premier League season sees a lot of new managerial appointments, some of whom don’t work quite as well as others, but Brendan Rodgers appears to be having the desired effect at Leicester and the former Liverpool boss can go on step closer to achieving his goals with victory over Newcastle tonight.
Since arriving, Rodgers has managed to breathe new life into Leicester, who have four straight wins and five in their last six, with seventh place a tempting end of season target. Against Huddersfield they cut loose, with former Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy scoring two and creating the opportunity that allowed James Maddison to pile in a fine free kick.
Beating Newcastle will be harder than that. Rafael Benitez’ men might well be coming into this without a win in three but they still have skin in the game regarding the battle for survival and they present a much harder task to break down than most top half teams. Their goals against tally is just 43, the best record in the bottom half of the Premier League.
A 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace was a gutting result but Newcastle are still seven points clear of Cardiff, with precious little time for the Bluebirds to claw their way back into proceedings, and with a couple of home games still to come Benitez might see this as a free hit to put men behind the ball and force Leicester to break them down.
A serious injury to the in form Florian Lejeune makes this harder to pull off, although Fabian Schär, Jamal Lascelles and Matt Richie have all been excellent in rearguard efforts. On the road, only Arsenal and Liverpool have managed to beat them by more than one goal and The Gunners have won their last 11 on the spin.

Leicester should be good enough to break down Newcastle over the 90 minutes but this could get trappy even with Salmon Rondon forced to carry the hopes of the visitors and perhaps this could be a tight win.
