STAR PREVIEW: Liverpool v Arsenal

Hopefully if you’re reading this, you’ve had a good Christmas – or at least two winners after the big day itself. If you’re reading this and you’re a Liverpool fan then you’ve had a great Christmas, with Jurgen Klopp’s reds now dreaming of title glory.

Back to back defeats – yes, you are reading that correctly – for Manchester City combined with two wins for Liverpool against Wolves and Newcastle have given them a six point lead over Tottenham with more than half the season gone.

It is now no understatement to say that the last week of the year might be the most crucial for Liverpool, as today’s game against Arsenal is followed by a trip to Manchester City. Avoid defeat or better in those games and they could take a big step – even this early – to a first ever Premier League title.

And given their recent performances it’s no surprise they are 1/2 to beat Arsenal. Mo Salah’s dive against Newcastle was fortunate to go unpunished but they were dominant in a 4-0 victory with goals from Dejan Lovren, that controversial Salah penalty, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho, and just a few days before they were impressive in taking a 2-0 victory from Wolves, no mean feat given that Manchester City and Chelsea had dropped points there.

Some of the flaws that so frustrated Arsenal fans under Wenger have reared their head once again and that goes a long way to explaining why there’s 13 points between the two teams, so the market looks to have Liverpool as the rightful favourites and it’s understandable why they are just 1/2 with

Bookmakers expect plenty of goals and for good reason – only Manchester City have managed to stop Liverpool scoring – and Arsenal have seen 67% of their away games go over 3.5 goals. With Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both at the top of the goalscoring charts both sides will feel they can score and this could break into an open game.
