STAR PREVIEW: Liverpool v Huddersfield

This is the state of play. Three more wins for Manchester City, and no matter what Liverpool do, they will finish second. That in itself does not sound remarkable, but when one considers that Liverpool could finish second with 97 points, the reality of just how contested this title race has been sinks in.

Indeed, had it not been for one tightly contested goal-line call going City’s way in January, Liverpool could be looking at an unbeaten 100-point season – those are the standards met in the title race.

Jurgen Klopp’s men face Huddersfield at Anfield tonight, with the already relegated Terriers having declined further under Jan Siewert, who has seen the Terriers win just one of twelve games under his tenure. They come into this match off the back of seven straight defeats, and on three of those seven occasions they’ve conceded four goals (away at West Ham, Tottenham and at home to Leicester), so Liverpool will fancy racking up a few goals here.

With a Champions League semi-final around the corner, Jurgen Klopp could be minded to rest players, or pull them off early, if things go as the market suggests (they are 1/16 to win). Finding a bet in this game is a tough one, with every market rather prohibitively priced. Liverpool have kept it tight at the back all season, so the ‘win to nil’ market will be a popular option for many.

This doesn’t look a game to stake too much on – but if there’s to be a flood of goals, it could come in the second half, especially given the tension surrounding this game.
