STAR PREVIEW: Man City v Cardiff

With six games to go, the battle for the Premier League title is set to go down right to the wire, but it’s unlikely there’ll be a twist when Manchester City face Cardiff tonight.

Pep Guardiola’s men will jump back to the top of the table if they win this fixture as all form suggests they should, and that would be a welcome bounce back after Hugo Lloris palmed Mohamed Salah’s header back into Toby Alderweireld’s path, giving Liverpool a last gasp 2-1 win over Tottenham.

Cardiff City are 35/1 to win with 5 points at 13/5 with, one of the biggest prices that we have ever laid for a side to win a football match, and Manchester City are 1/18 to get the three points they need, and it’s not hard to see why. City have been truly relentless in 2019, winning 18 out of their 20 games in all competitions, with the sole defeat coming at Newcastle.

City have won 16 of their last 17 Premier League games at home, for good measure, and any upset looks unlikely against a Cardiff side that is struggling to stay up – although there is just one relegation spot left after Fulham went down.

They will be aggrieved not to have had at least a point after their last gasp 2-1 loss to Chelsea, when they were denied two clear cut penalties and also had to suffer Cesar Azpilicueta’s 84th minute equaliser being clearly offside, and it’s worth noting that they’ve won three of their previous six too – with games against Burnley, Brighton and Fulham to come.

Facing the behemoth that is City is a totally different task, however, and Cardiff have suffered on the road against the Big Six. They’ve conceded 29 goals away to the rest of the Big Six, an average of 3 a game, and City will probably see that as a minimum – even with a heavily rotated team as they have an FA Cup semi-final and also a Champions League quarter-final to come too.

Every option is extremely short but Liverpool and Chelsea beat Cardiff 4-1 so the 12/1 on that might be a value option, along with a small bet on 3-1 too, as City have won three games by that margin at home.
