Rafa Benitez has many happy memories on Merseyside, but few have come at Everton and Arsenal can push the under-fire manager closer towards the edge with victory tonight.
A promising start has quickly turned into a nightmare for tonight’s hosts, who lost their sixth game in seven matches as Liverpool romped to victory in a one-sided Merseyside Derby that saw fans leaving early in their droves.
To see such a gulf between the two was no surprise, but Everton may have struggled against any opposition, given their form. They’ve take just two points from the last 24 available, putting them bottom of the Premier League form table by at least four points, and in that time they’ve scored just five goals.
Admittedly injuries have bitten hard – especially the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin – but Everton’s squad depth has been brutally exposed, and their earlier form now looks weak, with early season wins against Southampton (currently 14th), Brighton (ninth), Burnley (18th) and Norwich (20th) looking far less rosy than they did at the time.

Visitors Arsenal have underperformed away from home – they’ve lost four games on the road, drawn one, and won just two, one being against Burnley – but three of those defeats have come at Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United, all clubs with vastly superior quality and form to Everton at the moment.
Mikel Arteta’s men appear to be progressing even if there’s still work to be done, and they have a fine opportunity to take three points on the road against a struggling Everton side.
