STAR PREVIEW Mon: Tottenham v Everton

With more sides having games under their belt since lockdown has returned, the quality of most Premier League games has improved quite rapidly and viewers could be in for an entertaining Monday Night Football fixture between Tottenham and Everton.

The hosts arrive here after an incredibly frustrating 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United, when Harry Kane had the ball in the net three times but had two of them allowed – first for what seemed like the equaliser before his strike was controversially ruled out by VAR because of a handball by Lucas Moura in the build-up and then again at 2-0 when they were attempting to launch a comeback in the game.

That contest – which was yet another defeat for a side that has just three away wins all season – could have gone differently, but the performance will still provide some worries, especially as the hosts (who were winless until that point and struggling for attacking form) outworked them in the second half, winning the shots on target count 5-2.

They’ll have to be much better against an Everton side that has made an excellent return from lockdown – being unlucky not to beat Liverpool before then winning against Norwich (1-0) and Leicester (2-1). The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti looks to be working – only Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea having generated more expected goals than Everton, and Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Gylfi Sigurdsson, and youngster Anthony Gordon all give them attacking options that are supplement by Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman down the wings.

Spurs are better than they showed at Bramall Lane and have a good home record despite struggling this season – lost only four of their last 17 games at the new White Hart Lane – but they look far too short at evens. Everton haven’t won at a top half side but they played with credit when drawing at Manchester United and the time beforehand they’d been very unlucky not to take a point from a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal. The lack of fans should be a big help here to them and it might be worth chancing them at 11/4 for small stakes.
