A complete bust for us yesterday as Sport’n Forty was evidently nowhere near fit enough as she was well beaten in the maiden special weight at Gulfstream last night. The market was proved right about her eventually as she drifted off track, with the race being won by a big outsider taking a marked step up in trip. It’ll be interesting to see if she makes a reappearance there before the meeting ends, and what the market says about her chances then.

Today we return to Will Rogers Downs for another full card, with a number of decent races for the grade making for good betting opportunities. The Allowance (8.15) is probably the most eye-catching of the early contests and Zapit could be the prime pick. Beaten just a length in another allowance last month, she had the previous winner Justaboutright behind there over 6 furlongs and a repeat of that will give her a serious shot of being involved today. Casino Queen looks to be a major player, but if enough pressure can be applied to her early then she might be vulnerable down the stretch and Zapit’s six-furlong form can help her in the closing stages.
