STAR PREVIEW: National League Betting Tips (November 20th)

Chesterfield shot to the top of the National League last week after a thumping 4-0 win over a hapless Weymouth side last week with Boreham Wood’s frustrating 1-1 draw at Altrichman meaning they lost top spot.

Elsewhere, our tip of Wrexham to win and Both Teams to Score landed with Phil Parkinson’s side securing back-to-back victories in the National League and Notts County continued their rich vein of form with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Neal Ardley’s Solihull Moors.

There is plenty more to come this week as well with some really intriguing clashes for non-league fans to feast over. Here are our betting tips for what is sure to be another exciting weekend of National League action!

Solihull Moors v Chesterfield
National League 15:00

Solihull Moors boss Ardley would have absolutely loved a win on his return to former employers Notts County last week, but was left disappointed as his team slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Meadow Lane. Despite Solihull still sitting in a solid position just outside the play-offs, table-topping Chesterfield is surely the last fixture they’d want on the back of a defeat.

James Rowe’s side are currently enjoying a fabulous run of form that has seen them rise to the top of the National League. Star striker Kabongo Tshimanga – signed from Boreham Wood in the summer – already has 15 league goals to his name this season and looks difficult to stop at the moment.

Although a trip to Damson Park is likely to be a tough challenge for most sides in the division this year, it is difficult to look beyond the Spireites on current form. We’re backing them to head back to Derbyshire with all three points on Saturday.

Barnet v Torquay United
National League 15:00

Saturday’s encounter between Barnet and Torquay United is a clash between two sides who would perhaps have hoped to be doing slightly better at this stage of the season.

Barnet suffered a dismal 2020/21 campaign – finishing bottom and only surviving relegation as a result of the National League North and South being curtailed – but after a huge summer overhaul, which saw huge restructuring of both the coaching and playing staff, the Bees would have wanted to start the season better.

They’ve already changed manager with Harry Kewell facing the chop after just seven matches at the helm and, despite a slight upturn in form under interim boss Dean Brennan, the Bees sit only six points above the drop-zone.

Last season’s play-off finalists Torquay United started this season very sluggishly, winning just one of their opening seven matches and appearing to suffer a bit of a hangover from that heartbreaking loss to Hartlepool United at Ashton Gate in June.

Their form has picked up since, though, and the Gulls are currently unbeaten in their last three league matches. Both of these sides have shown that their defence can be leaky at times so we’re expecting both to find the net, but Torquay should just have the edge here.

Dover Athletic v FC Halifax Town
National League 15:00

With Andy Hessenthaler’s Dover Athletic starting the season on -12 points, it was always going to be a difficult campaign, but their recent performances on the pitch have managed to make it even harder.

They have managed to pick up just three points from their opening 14 fixtures and have conceded 33 goals in the process. They have lost their last seven matches and, even at this early stage of the season, look doomed to relegation.

Halifax, on the other hand, are progressing nicely under manager Pete Wild. Despite working under budget restrictions, the former Oldham Athletic boss has built a decent, organised side athat currently sit in sixth-position in the National League table.

They have conceded the fewest goals in the division, and it is hard to see Dover breaching that back-line. We are backing Halifax to win to nil at the Crabble Stadium on Saturday.
