STAR PREVIEW: Premier League Darts Thursday

The PDC Thursday night party rolls into the East Midlands, and fans will be delighted to see one of the headline acts from the World Championships make an appearance as one of the nine weekly Challengers. Fallon Sherrock takes on Premier League newcomer Glen Durrant and The Queen of the Palace can give Durrant plenty to think about.

The world number 22 made a winning debut as a fully-fledged member of the Premier League line-up last week with a 7-3 victory over 2018 runner-up Michael Smith. Durrant took advantage of Smith’s poor finishing, seeing Bully Boy missing five of eight doubles attempts. Sherrock showed enough at the World Championships to think she can keep up with Durrant’s average of 95 from last week, and there’s a chance she won’t be as slack on the doubles attempts as Smith was last week. She’s 11/2 to win the match, and whilst that might not appeal to some, a 3 dart average of 93+ does look appealing. Split stakes on her averaging 93-94.99% and 95% and above.

Elsewhere on the card, Rob Cross can get the evening off to a winning start for punters by gaining victory over Nathan Aspinall. Following an early exit at the World Championships before Christmas, Voltage embarked on a fitness regime seeing a weight loss of around 2 stone, and he looked something near his best in a thrilling 6-6 draw with Gerwyn Price last week. Coming back from a 4-2 deficit to Iceman, Cross reeled off four legs on the bounce which is some achievement against someone of Price’s class. Aspinall beat a poor John Henderson last week, but only averaged a mediocre 89.19, so on form Cross looks a solid selection to prevail at 13/8.

The closest match of the night looks like being a potential cracker between World Champion Peter Wright and his compatriot Gary Anderson. A match on form that looks to close to call, the tie appealing at 11/4. However, a bigger priced selection would be for both players to have the highest 3 Dart average of the evening. The Flying Scotsman impressed last week with a 7-5 victory of Daryl Gurney. With Wright keen to avoid a second Premier League defeat as World Champion, there’s a good chance both players can drive each other on and produce the best game of the evening, not just in the entertainment stakes, but also on paper. Take the 11/2 for Snakebite and 7/1 for Anderson to have the highest 3 Dart averages of the evening.
