STAR PREVIEW: Premier League Snakes and Ladders

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]unting can often be like snakes and ladders. You take a few steps forward but are always aware there’re snakes ahead and sometimes it’s that big long one that takes you from hero to zero on one throw of the die.

If you dodged one coupon busting snake over the weekend the chances are you didn’t dodge the other on what was a torrid opening weekend for punters.

Champions Chelsea being held 2-2 by Swansea was a big snake, Everton’s 2-2 draw against Watford a small snake and on Sunday the mother of all snakes raised her head when Arsenal were beaten 2-0 at home by West Ham.

The Stoke v Liverpool game was useless for me punting wise and surely in terms of Liverpool’s performance it presumably falls under the category of “it’s the three points that matter most” and not the “how we played” one.

City finished last season on a roll with six straight wins and get an unexpected opportunity tonight to gain some very early momentum against some of their biggest rivals.

West Brom defender Joleon Lescott is a doubt whilst for the visitors Gael Clichy and Fabian Delph are out with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.

The big talking point of the match will be whether Raheem Sterling can make an instant impact for City.

The Baggies were re-vitalised under Tony Pulis last season and particularly strong in defence keeping 10 clean sheets in 18 league games.

City have won four of their last five league games at the Hawthorns and should be fired up for a winning start to the new campaign.
