STAR PREVIEW Sat: France Women v Netherlands Women

In the final EURO 2022 quarter-final, France Women go head-to-head with Netherlands Women at the New York Stadium in Rotherham with a spot in the last-four up for grabs.

France will be desperate to avoid deja vu when they take on the Netherlands on Saturday – having gone out at the quarter-final stage in three consecutive European Championship tournaments.

They began EURO 2022 with a 5-1 thrashing of a hapless Italy side before edging past Belgium 2-1 in their second group match to secure their pathway into the next round.

They were dealt with the enormous blow, however, of losing Marie-Antoinette Katoto to injury with the rising star suffering a serious ACL injury.

Melvin Malard was the player to replace Katoto and it is expected that she will keep her place up-front for this quarter-final clash.

The Netherlands – under the stewardship of Englishman Mark Parsons – will be hoping to take one step closer to retaining the trophy they won in Switzerland in 2017.

Parsons’ side only needed a point from their last group match against Switzerland, but managed to sweep aside their Swiss counterparts with an emphatic 4-1 win.

Key player Vivianne Miedema missed all the group fixtures after contracting COVID-19 but she is back and her return will come as a huge boost for the Netherlands.

On paper, this looks like it has the potential to be most entertaining of the quarter-finals with both of these sides possessing players – particularly in the attacking areas – that can change games in an instant.

This really could go either way, but we think that France will just have the edge. We’re backing them to progress with both teams scoring.
