STAR PREVIEW Sat: Manchester United v Everton

Fresh off the back of that dramatic Champions League win against Villarreal in the week, Manchester United resume their domestic campaign with a clash against old foe Rafa Benitez’s Everton side at Old Trafford on Saturday.

It looked for a while like it was going to be another night of disappointment in the Champions League for Manchester United. The Red Devils looked flat for an hour and went behind in the 53rd minute through a Paco Alcacer strike.

However, Alex Telles’ brilliant long-range volley got them level and set up who else but Cristiano Ronaldo for a dramatic 95th-minute winner in front of the Stretford End to send the Manchester United faithful absolutely wild.

Despite that magical moment, it shouldn’t completely distract from another lacklustre United performance. They will need to be a lot better if they are to keep up with the chasing pack of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City who are all just going to keep getting better and better.

It has been a strong start to the season for Everton under new boss Benitez, taking 13 points from their opening six matches with their only slip-up coming away at Aston Villa.

The Toffees eased to a 2-0 victory over basement boys Norwich City in their last outing. A first-half penalty from summer signing Andros Townsend and a second-half strike from Abdoulaye Doucoure was enough to secure the points and see of Daniel Farke’s men.

Now the task is to remain consistent, something they failed to do last season after a positive start under Carlo Ancelotti. If they are to achieve that and keep this run of form going, Demairi Gray being able to continue his sparkling start to life at Goodison Park would be a huge boost.

The former Leicester City winger, who cost the Toffees just £1.8m in the summer, has already bagged three goals from his first six appearances and added a new dimension to the Everton attack.

Manchester United have been involved in several dramatic matches already this season and I expect that to continue when they take on Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides have the attacking players to hurt their opponents, and with United potentially missing both Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, they could look frail in defence. We’re backing Manchester United and both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in the match.
