STAR PREVIEW: Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds

The wheels may not have come off Marcelo Bielsa’s bus, but Leeds need a victory tonight at Sheffield Wednesday after a slight couple of stutters in the Championship.

It was a great shock for the white to fall to previously winless Birmingham for the first-time last week, with Bielsa admitting that he got his tactics wrong, with the decision to play Kalvin Phillips in midfield rather than as a third centreback backfiring, although the standard of play was a little below par compared to their phenomenal start to the season.

They dominated play against Birmingham with 17 shots to four but they missed the cutting edge of Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford, and the fact both those players will miss once again is an issue for them going forward whilst Gaetano Berardi, Izzy Brown and Pablo Hernandez are all set to be absent too.

This is an issue for them as Sheffield Wednesday are tough to beat at Hillsborough. They are unbeaten here in their last six and are going the right way under Jos Luhukay with 34 points from 21 games under his management. Compared to other leading lights in the Championship they may be small steps but they were impressive in victory against Aston Villa with a back three and Steven Fletcher and Marco Matias are finding their scoring boots.

Wednesday or the draw would be the slight value in the match markets, but this could be a game for goals. Despite missing their strikers, Leeds know only one way to play and will still carry a punch going forward. They have 19 goals so far, firing a blank against only Middlesbrough, and they now travel to a Sheffield Wednesday side that has scored at least twice in five of their past six Championship outings – and have over 2.5 goals in all but two of their Championship games. That could be the value.
