STAR PREVIEW Sun: Man City v Leicester City

The Premier League has done nothing but entertain so far this season and we could be in for more goals when Manchester City take on Leicester City. The hosts will be looking to get much more out of this season than the last – when Liverpool stormed to an 18-point title win whilst they had agonising knockouts at the quarter and semi-final stage of the Champions League and FA Cup respectively – and they started with a statement of intent when winning 3-1 at Wolves on Monday.

That was no mean feat given the hosts record against England’s best, along with the fact they were giving up a game to their hosts, and if they can continue in the same vein then we should be in for a much more competitive title race this time around.

However, City must navigate the early parts of this season with a squad that is facing a major test. A heavy challenge from Lewis Cook in their midweek EFL Cup game against Bournemouth means that Kevin De Bruyne isn’t a certainty to start here which would change their attacking setup fairly drastically.

There’s also a worry over their striking options as Gabriel Jesus is set to miss the next three games, whilst Sergio Augero is also absent with Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, & Oleksandr Zinchenko out until at least the international break. Ilkay Gundogan is self-isolating with COVID-19 whilst Aymeric Laporte has just come out of such a period, meaning he’s unlikely to be fit enough to start at centre back.

New signing Nathan Ake partnered well with John Stones on Monday – whilst Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling impressed there but Guardiola has just the 13 fit players and Leicester will hope to take advantage at either end.

Brendan Rogers’ men ended last season disappointingly after looking sure to take a top four place, but they’ve made a quick start to this campaign and don’t seem to have a hangover on the evidence of wins against West Brom (3-0) and Burnley (4-2) in their opening two games.

New signing Timothy Castagne has impressed in both games with comprehensive performances and he’s been backed up by Dennis Praet, who’s covered all areas in midfield in both wins so far, whilst Youri Tielemans, Nampalys Mendy & Harvey Barnes have all looked in excellent touch so far – not forgetting Jamie Vardy’s two penalties against Leicester.

Rogers made his priorities for this season clear as he rested his entire first XI for their 2-0 EFL Cup defeat to Arsenal, and whilst there’s rarely an ideal time to face Manchester City, this could well be it for a Leicester side that will be more than happy to sit off the ball and counter-attack Manchester City, who don’t make appeal at such a short price.

Leicester make appeal with a +1.75 goal start on the Asian Handicap, where only a two goal defeat would mean a losing selection.
