STAR PREVIEW Sun: Wolves v Newcastle

Newcastle have enjoyed a very positive start to the season and they can continue that with three more points at Wolves.

The Magpies have been on an upward curve since their takeover last October and made a statement with their 3-3 draw against Manchester City, coming from 1-0 down to take a 3-1 lead after goals from Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier, only for City to strike back with two goals in four minutes.

Whilst it will have been disappointing to get pulled back, Newcastle’s point last week was well earned and along with a hard-fought League Cup win, makes for a strong start to the season and they should have plenty of confidence ahead of this trip.

Wolves have just a point from their three games this season – although they probably should have more, given the success they’ve had in creating opportunities down the left hand side with Pedro Neto, Hwang Hee-chan and Daniel Podence all linking up well.

However for all their creation, Bruno Lage has struggled to get his side to score – they’ve scored just one goal all season – and tactical changes between a back four and back five aren’t encouraging.

The return of Raul Jimenez (who scored twice to put Wolves past Preston in the EFL Cup this week) to the starting line-up could give Wolves a bit of attacking edge, but they will have to be at their best defensively to hold off a Newcastle side brimming with confidence and quality.

Superstar winger Allan Saint-Maximin was involved with all three Newcastle goals last week whilst potential starting striker Chris Wood got on the scoresheet in the EFL Cup – and a VAR decision last week means that Kieran Trippier is available to Eddie Howe, along with Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron, which makes Newcastle an attractive looking price at 13/8.
