STAR PREVIEW: Swansea v Liverpool

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]wansea were thumped 5-0 by Liverpool on Boxing Day at Anfield and Iโ€™ve seen nothing since to suggest anything other than a similar annihilation will be handed out tonight.

Carlos Carvalhal has since taken charge at Swansea but they remain rooted to the bottom of the table – although on the positive side, after tonight, Swansea do begin an easier set of fixtures so could yet perform the Houdini act.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “I can’t imagine any easy games in the Premier League and Swansea is for sure not an easy game.

“We played Swansea a few weeks ago with a caretaker manager and I said after the game it was much more difficult than the result could make you think, so we know about the specific challenge in this game.

“They are bottom of the table but they are in a good way. What you have seen since the new manager has come in is a big improvement again: much better results and they won their FA Cup replay during the week.”

Liverpool could overtake Chelsea and move into third spot if winning by more than three and in doing so would extend their current winning run to six games and unbeaten run to 19 (across all competitions).

Mixed news from both sides on injuries.

Virgil van Dijk could make his first Premier League start for the club after recovering from a hamstring strain. Mo Salah has recovered from his illness, but captain Jordan Henderson is unlikely to start.

Swanseaโ€™s right-back Kyle Naughton is available after a three-match ban and fellow defender Mike van der Hoorn returns after a hamstring issue.
