STAR PREVIEW: The Masters 2021 with BLUE HORSESHOE

Every year I try to wax lyrical about what makes the Masters that is so special and every year I fail. So, this year I’ll try to put it succinctly; It’s simply golf heaven in the foothills of Augusta, Georgia. It makes men and women of a certain age feel soothed. If the Masters organising committee did a side hustle on golf fans being able to have their ashes scattered over the course, they’d make a small fortune.

Talking of small fortunes, the lads at Star Sports have got a couple of great little Masters’ promotions running.

Blue Horseshoe Loves:

Patrick Reed – currently at  ? with starsports.bet

Reed has won for me here before. It was one of my best ever results when I caught him at 50-1 in 2018. The course suits Reed’s game, which is built around his draw shot of the tee. His putting and chipping stats are almost constantly in the top ten for the season. Those are two disciplines which are of huge importance here. You cannot be flukey with the putter or wedge and win here. If Reed gets an iron in his hand from good positions off the tee, mark my words, he’ll be right there come Sunday.

Cameron Smith – currently at  ? with starsports.bet

I am all about course form at Augusta. History shows that you need to know this course and how to thrive on it. Mullet Man has shown a real liking for this venue down the years. He’s been really low here at times before and last year’s four rounds in the sixties would have won the green jacket if it wasn’t for a Rampant Dustin Johnson. His game’s in good nick and there looks to be no reason why the little Aussie Battler won’t enjoy himself here again.

Daniel Berger – currently at  ? with starsports.bet

I cannot shake this guy out of my thoughts for some reason. The voices in my head are saying ‘Don’t sleep on Berger mate.’ On my podcast yesterday I had Sebastian Munoz in my bets but I’ve decided to change horses and get on Berger. I just think his scrambling and putting game could come in really handy in what has been described and ‘crispy’ greens. The hard and fast conditions will suit players who can plot their way around the course and slot birdies when the chances present themselves. Berger can do this.

Xander Schauffele  – currently at ? with starsports.bet

Xander has been a real head scratcher for me lately. No one has ever placed more for me down the years than this guy. But by his own admission he should have won more. I’m backing Schauffele because he’s a very very classy player who is capable of at least one Green Jacket in his career. He’s placed highly here multiple times and ran second in the Masters’ 2019. His form this season has been underwhelming, but at 22/1 I just cannot ignore the price.

Bernd Weisberger – currently at ? with starsports.bet

This is my dark horse each way bet that makes no sense at all to anyone in the world but me. Bernd and I have a long and complicated relationship, but I know there’s good in him. His track record around here isn’t bad and this price is just crazy for a man of Weisberger’s talents. He might fall out of the gates and do bugger all. But if he gets away well, he’s got the game to place at a very very nice return for only a few bob spent.

Good luck punters, and enjoy.
