STAR PREVIEW Thurs: CJ Cup with BLUE HORSESHOE

I’m not sure what the golfing Gods have against me at the moment, but they certainly are in the mood for loving me the wrong way right now, as another Blue Horseshoe tip in the form of Patrick Cantlay, started the final round in the lead only to fall apart with spectacular efficiency on Sunday.

If I wasn’t already a drinking man, I’d turn to the bottle. But now is not the time for guzzling oat sodas and naval gazing. I’m not far away with this slew of 54 hole leaders. It’s time to trust the process and keep marching on!

The CJ Cup is usually played in South Korea, but with the way things are currently, they have decided to export it this year to the ultra exclusive Shadow Creek resort course in Vegas baby!

With the course having never held a PGA tour event and the one man with any real form at Shadow Creek, Dustin Johnson, who holds the course record of 62, having to pull out due to a positive COVID test, the event is a wide open affair.

For that reason I’m basing my picks on recent form and golfers I see as good value.

Blue Horseshoe Loves

Xander Schauffele – currently at 12/1 with starsports.bet

Schauffele was excellent at the Tour Championship, storming home for second.
He then went onto fight for a high leaderboard finish at a very challenging U.S. Open. He is trending well and I think he’ll win before the years out.

Patrick Cantlay – currently at 22/1 with starsports.bet

Despite his fourth round meltdown last week, I’m going to stick with Cantlay. He played very well for the first three rounds to lead the tournament, he likes playing in the desert conditions and he putted very nicely last week.

Cameron Smith – currently at 80/1 with starsports.bet

Regular readers will see Cameron Smith is a bit of a personal favourite of mine. He won his first PGA tour event in Hawaii in January and I remain convinced of his ability to win more PGA Tournaments. He played well last week and this sort of resort course layout could really suit Smith. He’s great each way value.

Matthew Fitzpatrick – currently at 35/1 with starsports.bet

Fitzpatrick played well at the PGA Championship in the UK last week and I think this multiple European tour event winner is close to securing his first PGA Tour win in the U.S.

Tom Hoge – currently at 250/1 with starsports.bet

Hoge is my each way value bet this week. He has notched a string of high leaderboard finishes lately and his game is clearly in good form.
