STAR PREVIEW Thurs: Houston Open Preview with BLUE HORSESHOE

The Houston Open has always been the lead up tournament prior to The Masters and so it is again this year, although the season is different and the course Memorial Park, is a new venue. It is interesting to note that the course architect, Tom Doak, worked in conjunction with a guys by the name of Brooks Koepka on the redesign of this course last year.

They designed Memorial Park with an accent on accuracy and removed a lot of bunkers, which were replaced by heavily undulated run off areas around the greens. The course is Bermuda grass, which can give many pro’s fits on the greens.

Blue Horseshoe Loves

Ollie Schniederjans – currently 125/1 with

Blue Horseshoe tipped out Ollie last week at 100/1 and came home alone in third place to give us a much needed result. I’m going to stick with him again this week as he is clearly in form and has the class to get close again. He could have won last week as he left a few putts out there at Bermuda, and I think he knows he has the game to win on tour.

Brooks Koepka – currently 22/1 with

Koepka is on the road to recovery from his knee injury. But his performance, the week before last was solid and his comments afterwards about being happy with the progress of his game was encouraging. The fact that the he was heavily involved with the redesign of this course is also a positive.

Wyndham Clark – currently 75/1 with

Clark has been playing really well for the last few weeks and blew a three shot lead close to home to lose in a playoff to Brian Gay in Bermuda. What was really impressive about Clark though was his brilliant putting game on the Bermuda greens. As long as he isn’t too heart broken from last week, he could go well again.

Alex Noren – currently 66/1 with

Noren’s game is trending up. He’s very much a confidence player and it looks as though he is a good way to sorting the glitches in his game that have seen him disappear from the top of the leader boards of late. He played well in Bermuda last week and I think he’s good each way value here

Lanto Griffin – currently 35/1 with

Griffin has been somewhat of a revelation on the PGA Tour since breaking through for his first PGA Tour win last year. He’s been in contention a number of times since and was right in the mix the week before last with Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay. What became clear was just how much of an outstanding putter he is, which could be a real asset around here.
