STAR PREVIEW Thurs: John Deere Classic
I’ve been reading a lot of people on Twitter bemoaning the less-than-stellar field for the John Deere classic in Illinois this week.
I don’t see it that way at all. What I see is a field minus the usual suspects with their awful prices and a bunch of guys who suddenly stand a chance of winning or placing at some good value marks.
TPC Deere run in Quad Cities Illinois is a bit of a cake walk of a course. It’s a 7,268 yard Par 71 that historically presents competitors with consistent birdie opportunities. As a consequence, the scoring is low and the leaderboard is usually packed with players in a race to the bottom. You want to find guys with the ability to get on a roll and start pouring them in from all over the place and as luck would have it, I believe I’ve a few of these sort of individuals.
Blue Horseshoe Loves:
Lee Hodges – Currently at with starsports.bet
Anyone who follows me knows I’ve been tipping Lee Hodges for a month or so now. I tipped him last week at the Travelers at 250/1 and he was right around the top of the leader board for three days until a messy two-over par final round saw him fall away into a tie for 25th. While I was a little disappointed to not be able to cash in for a place at 250/1, I was still encouraged by his overall performance and I remain convinced that Hodges is going to come in at any old money. He’s still triple figures this week in a shallow field and off a string of stronger and stronger performances. Don’t sleep on this young bloke, he’s got some quality about him.
Cam Davis – Currently at with starsports.bet
Davis is a player of enormous ability and is a future star of the game in my opinion. He’s already notched his first PGA Tour win last season and has gone close a couple of times since. I see him as stonking value here, as he’s far better than many of the players around him on the market at a similar price this week. He’s another player who was hanging around the top of the leader board at the Travelers until a poor final round scuppered his chances. That tends to be the way with Davis. Its either feast or famine with him and I think at this benign layout, he has the potential to feast.
Martin Laird – Currently with starsports.bet
The Scotsman is not the sexiest player in the world, but he’s as solid as a rock. He played a great tournament last week at The Travelers to finish in a tie for 13th and it could have been so much better if not for a couple of bad holes on Sunday. In this weak line up, Laird suddenly looks a mighty attractive prospect at this price.
Richy Werenski – Currently with starsports.bet
Here’s one for the truly adventurous amongst you. He’s in no form at all, but he’s a better player than this price. He’s a punchers chance in a field like this minus all the big guns. It’s just a hunch.
