STAR PREVIEW Thurs: Wells Fargo Championship
Another decent enough result last week with Aaron Wise placing for us in Mexico at decent odds. But my main takeaway from The Mexico Open at Vidanta in Porto Vallarta is that I want to go and stay at Vidanta in Porto Vallarta for quite some time, perhaps forever.
This week we are back in mainland USA for the Wells Fargo Championship. We would usually be back to Quail Hollow, but due to other hosting commitments for the course. We are at TPC Potomac. I know, I haven’t heard of it either. Although this course is only 7,160 yards, it is also only a par 70 and the word from those in the know is that this course is no gimmie. It’s also had a make-over from Pete Dye, so you know accuracy in driving and iron play will be paramount.

Blue Horseshoe Loves:
Webb Simpson – currently at with starsports.bet
I’m kind of stunned at Simpsons odds this week. TPC Potomac is a course that apparently demands precision off the tee and from the fairway to benefit. Precision is what Simpson has in spades in his game. He screams each value to me at his opening odds of 45/1.
Corey Conners – currently at with starsports.bet
Conners looks close to registering his next win on the PGA Tour. He’s had a series of high leader board finishes over the last month or so, including a strong showing at the Masters. With this high ranking in the driving accuracy stats, this test plays to his strengths and I would be surprised if he’s not in contention come Sunday.
Keith Mitchell – currently at with starsports.bet
In what is a comparatively weak field, Mitchell looks like a nice price here. He finished second to Rory McIlroy in last years Wells Fargo Championship and while this is a different course all together, I think his distance off the tee could separate him from the pack with McIlroy again. They also both look to be the dogs in the long approach stakes and that is said to be helpful around here.
Cam Davis – currently at with starsports.bet
This is my speculator for the week. Davis has been fairly quiet of late. But I noticed that he came from miles back in the pack to finish with a wet sail and end up in a tie for 3rd at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town last month, another searching Pete Dye accuracy test. If Davis has found something in his game, he could prove to be great each way value at these odds. The young Aussie has already notched his first PGA tour win, he’s a huge prospect in the game and there are quite a few players under his price who aren’t nearly as good as him and won’t end up with the career that this guy will end up with.
