STAR PREVIEW Thurs: WM Phoenix Open with BLUE HORSESHOE
A great result for Blue Horseshoe last week with top tip Tom Hoge winning at 50/1. As any long term reader of my weekly article will know, I have been banging on about Tom Hoge and his potential to win on the PGA tour for over a year now. It’s nice to see him finally get it done, and still at a decent enough price.
This week we are back at Golf’s biggest frat party. The Waste Management Phoenix Open. It’s a particularly strong field this year and there are many players at the top of the market, such as Hideki Matsuyama, who have racked up a bunch of top ten finishes at this tournament. I wouldn’t try and talk you out of anyone at the top of the market, but as ever I’m looking for a bit of each way value from players I see as a little overpriced.

Blue Horseshoe Loves:
Gary Woodland – currently at with starsports.bet
Woodland has been on a long climb back from injury over the last 12 months and I think he might be just about back to full form. He has played one event this year, at the challenging Torey Pines, where he played well. He has won the Phoenix Open before, in 2018, and finished 7th in 2019. At 13th on tour this year in driving distance he’s got the length to take advantage of the par five’s and he clearly enjoys it here. I think he’s a great price this week.
Keith Mitchell – currently at with starsports.bet
Mitchell finished 12th last week at Pebble Beach and has made a habit of hanging around the top of leaderboard’s so far this year. He’s had two top ten finishes early in this 2022 season, so he’s seeing it well as they say. He’s another big ball hitter, so he should feast on the par fives and the driveable par four on 17. This man is close to winning again in my opinion.
KH Lee – currently at with starsports.bet
Lee finished second here last year, one stroke behind Brooks Koepka. Lee also won his maiden PGA tour event last year on a TPC desert course, so he clearly enjoys playing this kind of course set up. He has started this year well if not spectacularly, but I have a feeling he will be happy to back on a desert course for the first time this year.
Cam Davis – currently at with starsports.bet
The tall willowy Aussie has started the year well, with one top ten finish and a couple of others just outside the top ten. While he does not have much course form to speak of, I think he will enjoy this course with its plethora of risk and reward holes. He certainly has the length and the game to take advantage of them and if he gets away to a good start this price might seem great each way value in retrospect.
