STAR PREVIEW Thurs: Wolves v Olympiakos

Wolves may have just missed out on a top six finish in the Premier League but there’s still European football for Nuno’s side and they know that a spot in the quarter-finals of the Europa League with victory against Olympiakos this evening.

Wolves will be disappointed not to have an advantage going into this, after they played an hour against ten men in the reverse leg when Olympiakos centre-back Ruben Semedo was red-carded in the 28th minute. Despite that, the hosts deserved their draw and mustn’t be underestimated.

Arsenal found that out to their cost when they knocked out the gunners in extra time and two of their seven losses all season in competitive matches have come against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Wolves will obviously need to be alert on their return, especially of attacking duo top scorer Youssef El Arabi (25 goals for visitors this season) and Mathieu Valbuena (23 assists and nine goals), but they will be helped by the suspension of Semedo and the absence of first choice goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Wolves will also go through with a goalless draw, so they will have the tactical benefit of another side coming onto them, and that ought to make life easier for Nuno, who should find that Diogo Jota, Pedro Neto, and Adama Traore all get a chance to make hay on the break and supply Raul Jimenez, Wolves’ talisman who scored 17 Premier League goals and has five in the Europa League so far.

That could make this a more open game than most fixtures involving Wolves generally are, and 15/2 on Wolves winning 2-1 looks to be a good value angle in – although the 1-1 draw at 6/1 has its merits as well.
