STAR PREVIEW Thurs: Wyndham Championship
I’m back from my week off, refreshed and ready to try and replenish my bank account after a fantastic trip to magical Menorca. So, let’s turn our attention to the last PGA tournament before the Fedex Cup playoffs.
Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina is a 7,131 yard par 70 Donald Ross design that demands precision over power. Its small Bermuda greens require accuracy with ball striking and an ability to putt this surface to be able to pull away from the field. Hence, I’m looking for Bermuda specialists and guys that have been trending well in approach play.
Blue Horseshoe Loves:
Lee Hodges – currently with starsports.bet
Young Mr. Hodges is getting close. As any of you who follow me will know, I have been tracking this guy for a while now. He sat third after two rounds last week only to throw away his chance with a sloppy third round. That seems to be the way with a lot of these young talents. They get close and stumble before eventually putting it all together. Hodges has been trending in this direction for a good few weeks now and he is going to put it together before the season is out.
Tyrrell Hatton – Currently with starsports.bet
The maddest man in golf is a bit a streaky beast, but when he clicks he’s as good as any in the game. Hatton has been getting warm of late. He was in contention at The Open Championship and has carried that form on. His strength is ball striking and this course set up should play to his considerable strengths in that area. I’d be very surprised if Hatton wasn’t right in this.
Davis Riley – Currently with starsports.bet
After promising so much earlier in the season, Riley’s progress seems to have stalled somewhat. But I still believe this young man is one of the most exciting young talents in the game and he has drifted to a price where I just cannot ignore him. Make no mistake this is a weak field and Riley has the class edge on most here. If he is dialled in on his excellent approach play game, then he should enjoy this venue.
Keith Mitchell – Currently with starsports.bet
I have gone for Mitchell for pretty much one reason here; He loves putting on Bermuda greens. All his best results, including his win at the Honda Classic have come on Bermuda greens. The dude just loves rolling the rock on this surface. Oh, and he can play a bit too. His odds here are very attractive on a field this thin.
