STAR PREVIEW Tues: Norwich City v Liverpool

After a 2020/21 season bereft of any silverware, Liverpool will be hoping to put that right with the Carabao Cup providing an opportunity to do just that and their first match in the competition will be when they travel to struggling Norwich City on Tuesday night.

Despite romping home to the Championship title last season, Norwich have suffered similar struggles in the Premier League as to when they were last in the division two years ago; losing all five of their games so far with the latest coming against relegation rivals Watford at the weekend.

Teemu Pukki levelled the scores against the Hornets after Emmanuel Dennis’ opener before Ismaila Sarr stole the show in the second-half and dealt the Canaries with what already feels like a crushing blow to their survival hopes.

The Carabao Cup could be a good opportunity to refuel the group with some much-needed confidence, but they’ll have to get past a very tough Liverpool side to do that.

Although rotation is to be expected, Liverpool will likely still field a strong side of star-studded players in this third round clash with the Canaries.

It would be fair to say that the 2020/21 campaign didn’t go to plan for Liverpool. Losing their Premier League crown and breaking a record for consecutive home defeats is unlikely to be what Jurgen Klopp had in mind.

The Reds have started this season very brightly, though, with 13 points from their opening five matches leaving them in second-place and Saturday’s win against Crystal Palace being topped off by Sadio Mane bagging his 100th goal for the club.

While the Carabao Cup won’t be at the top of Klopp’s priority list this season – with the Premier League and Champions League surely taking precedent – it will still be a tough ask for Norwich to get past any Liverpool side that the German coach puts out.

Goals could well be in the offing with both sides tending to play on the front-foot at a frantic tempo. We’re backing a Klopp’s side to progress to the next round of the cup with over 2.5 goals in this third round clash at Carrow Road.
