STAR PREVIEW Weds: Denmark v Scotland
Following the disappointment of the Euros in the summer, Steve Clarke’s Scotland return to international action against Denmark in a World Cup 2022 Qualifier at the Parken Stadium.
It was an extraordinary journey for Denmark at the Euros, whose campaign opened in very distressing fashion with the shocking collapse of Christian Eriksen but ended with a semi-final finish at Wembley; narrowly missing out on the final with a defeat to England.
After proving their credentials as a serious international force over the summer, Denmark will be looking to build on that and qualify emphatically for next year’s winter World Cup in Qatar.
They will be without Eriksen who is consulting with doctors and medical professionals about whether he can continue to play football, but Andreas Christensen and Mikkel Damsgaard will be looking to build on their particularly impressive tournament.

Despite picking up a valiant 0-0 draw against England at Wembley, Scotland were left disappointed as they crashed out of the Euros at the group-stage.
A 2-0 defeat to Czech Republic in their first match and a 3-1 loss to a Luka Modric-inspired Croatia in their final group game consigned Scotland to another early exit. Although progress was certainly been made under Clarke in getting to the tournament, the Scottish faithful were left to wait for qualification into the knockout stages.
Clarke’s side have made a fairly strong start to the qualification stages for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar; winning one and drawing two of their opening three games, leaving them in second-place in the group as things stand.
However, I expect Denmark’s quality to shine through in this one. They proved in the Euros how tough of a side they are to get past and the current Group F table-toppers to get past Scotland in this one. In what should be an entertaining clash, we’re backing Denmark to win and both teams to score.
