STAR PREVIEW Weds: Liverpool v AC Milan
Liverpool begin their Champions League group stage campaign with a very tasty-looking clash with old foes AC Milan at Anfield on Wednesday evening.
Despite many tipping Chelsea and Manchester City ahead of them for Premier League success this season, Liverpool have made a strong start to the new league campaign and already emerged as possible title contenders with 10 points from their opening four league matches.
They will have to be without one of the key men behind this early success, though, in young Harvey Elliott. The 18-year-old has had a majestic start to the season, but sadly suffered a horrible ankle injury in the Reds’ 3-0 victory over Leeds at the weekend; ruling him out for the majority of the season.
They still have plenty of quality in attack, though. Mohamed Salah bagged his 100th Premier League goal against Marcelo Bielsa’s side on Sunday and will be hungry for more as Liverpool look to get off to a strong start in the Champions League.

MAY 2007 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL AC Milan 2-1 Liverpool
MAY 2005 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL AC Milan 3-3 Liverpool
Following some positive progression in Serie A under manager Stefano Pioli, AC Milan are now back in the Champions League this clash with Liverpool will be the Italian giants’ first appearance in the Champions League since the 2013-14 season.
AC Milan finished second in Serie A last season, returning them to the top-table of European football after an eight-year absence, and have also started this league campaign very strongly by winning all of their first three matches.
39-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic also made a triumphant return to first-team action on Sunday following a long-term knee injury, bagging the second goal in a fantastic 2-0 win over Lazio at San Siro.
These two sides have only faced each other twice before, but that first encounter produced one of the most memorable and astonishing European nights ever in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul.
Although the chances of Wednesday’s match being as exciting and breath-taking as that are remote, this Champions League match-up does look like it could produce fireworks. We’re predicting goals in this one and backing Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals.
