Top Goalscorer
This market, like it is with every tournament, is a fiercely competitive one with plenty of stars vying to get their hands on the golden boot. Here is a run-down of some of the favourites:
Ellen White (England)
White is the current starsports.bet favourite (13/2) to repeat her efforts of the 2019 World Cup and bring home the golden boot this summer.
The Aylesbury-born forward hasn’t enjoyed the finest of seasons in front of goal for her club – bagging just four goals in 22 appearances in the WSL for Manchester City – but always seems to turn up for her country.
Although, that said, 13/2 doesn’t look like the best value for a striker on the back of a season like White has just had – even if England do go deep into the tournament like we predicted in our outright preview. The goals are more likely to be shared among the Lionesses’ plethora of attacking options.
Marie-Antoinette Katoto (France)
Katato is currently 7/1 to finish EURO 2022 as top goalscorer and – with 25 goals in just 30 caps for her country – it is not hard to see why she is among the early favourites for the award.
The PSG forward was controversially left out of France’s World Cup squad in 2019, but coach Corinne Diacre was left with little to no choice this time and will be a huge part of France’s Euro campaign.
Of course it comes with the caveat that the French league doesn’t have the same strength in depth that many other top European leagues do, but the 23-year-old’s goal record is something to behold.
It will be very exciting to see how she gets on this summer.
Vivianne Miedema (Netherlands)
As mentioned in the outright preview, Miedema is such a dangerous weapon for the Netherlands and is, of course, among the early favourites to be the top goalscorer at EURO 2022.
Miedema is an intelligent, versatile forward player who has been a constant threat in the WSL for Arsenal since joining from Bayern Munich in 2017. She can play across the front-line – and she may well be deployed in the number 10 position for the Netherlands this summer – which some may view as damaging her chances of winning the golden boot slightly.
However, wherever Miedama is, goals never seem to be too far behind and she is certainly in the reckoning to be the top goalscorer at EURO 2022 for that reason. 8/1 represents decent value, too.
Alexia Putellas (Spain)
The current Ballon D’or holder is currently 8/1 with starsports.bet to win the golden boot at EURO 2022.
Whilst playing predominantly as a left-sided attacking midfielder for Barcelona, Putellas ended last season as the top scorer in the Champions League; wowing with her speed and skill and even drawing comparisons to Barca men’s legend Lionel Messi.
With Spain the current favourites to win the tournament, they should go far into the tournament and obviously more games means more chances for Putellas to score goals. At 8/1, there is definitely some value in backing her for the golden boot.
Other contenders
England have some great attacking options in their ranks and have plenty of contenders for the golden boot. Beth Mead at 10/1 doesn’t look like the worst shout in the world with the 27-year-old off the back of another strong season with Arsenal at club level.
Ada Hedgerberg of Norway is another player with a sensational goalscoring record and her return to the international stage could well make a splash at this tournament. She is 18/1 to win the golden boot but, although she is a star player, her chances of winning that award relies on Norway reaching the latter stages which is no guarantee.
Tournament Goals Handicap
As part of the range of specials markets for the women’s EURO 2022 this summer, Star Sports are offering a tournament goals handicap market with plenty of opportunities to find some value.
We backed England to go all the way in the tournament in our preview of the outright markets – and we also like the look of the Lionesses at +3 in the goals handicap market (10/1).
In Beth Mead, Lauren Hemp, Beth England, Nikita Parris, Chloe Kelly and the aforementioned White, England have a plethora of attacking options to choose from and look threatening in that area.
Winner/Top Goalscorer Double
Of course, we have already backed England to do well but have also raised doubts over whether White can repeat her feat of the 2019 World Cup and be the tournament’s top scorer again.
Therefore, current favourites Spain coupled with Putellas – who has already been mentioned as one of the attacking players to watch at EURO 2022 – at 25/1 looks like the best chance of success in this market.
