STAR PREVIEW: Zurich Classic
Greetings golf fans. Well, Blue Horseshoe found a place with Patrick Cantlay finishing third at the RBC Heritage last week, but I can’t help feeling a little frustrated with him. If it wasn’t for a couple of slightly sloppy holes coming in Cantlay had a very realistic shot at forcing a playoff situation with C.T. Pan, thereby giving himself the chance to win the whole shooting match.
Anyway we can’t live in the world of should’a, would’a, could’a. Let’s look to this week.
The Zurich Classic is unique in that is a pairs event. During the first and third rounds the teams play four-ball. (Otherwise known as best ball where the teams play two shots from the tee and choose the best shot of the two) During the second and fourth rounds the teams play foursome, which means the teams play with one ball and have to hit alternately.
Because of this format you have to look at course form along with the pairings strengths and weaknesses.
I have chosen three pairings this week. One based on course form. One based on the combined strength of the pairing and one based on recent form with a bit of good each way value thrown.
Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt won this event in 2017 and keep coming back to play this tournament together. Both are great ball strikers on this Pete Dye course that rewards accuracy. They can be backed around 40/1 with starsports.bet
Tony Finau and Kyle Stanley are an interesting combo. Finau is the longest hitter on tour this year which will give Stanley all sorts of advantages with his excellent iron game which he is well known for. Currently around 18/1 with starsports.bet
Cameron Champ and Sam Burns Both of these guys are huge hitters and Burns was in great form last week finishing ninth at the RBC Heritage and he should have finished higher if not for a slightly messy finish. They are great each way odds at around 80/1 with starsports.bet
RECOMMENDED BETS (scale of 1-100 points)
