Ecuador face Germany at MetLife Stadium on Thursday, in just the third meeting between the two nations in their history, writes JOE CITRONE.

Germany have already booked their place in the last 32 after seeing off Curacao and Ivory Coast, while Ecuador know nothing but victory will do if they’re to keep their own World Cup alive.

Germany arrive with the look of a team that’s already done the hard work, and Nagelsmann can afford to freshen things up knowing top spot is wrapped up. Ecuador, by contrast, are goalless after two and have to go for it from minute one – and that’s exactly the kind of game that suits the Germans.
