STAR WORLD CUP PREVIEW Weds: Scotland v Brazil
Scotland’s hopes of reaching the World Cup knockout rounds are firmly in the balance, but anything better than a heavy defeat against Brazil in Miami will give the Tartan Army realistic ambitions of progressing, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.
In a World Cup that has thrown up several surprising results, there will undoubtedly be plenty of Scots keen to take the 8/1 about an upset in the Hard Rock Stadium.
An unconvincing win against Haiti was followed by a 1-0 defeat against Morocco, in which Scotland couldn’t muster a single shot on target. Steve Clarke will surely have to set his team up with more ambition if they are to get any kind of result here.
Brazil, seen by some as potential tournament winners, didn’t exactly fly out of the blocks with their 1-1 against Morocco, but they had no trouble swatting Haiti aside 3-0, and Carlo Ancelotti’s side might just be easing themselves into this marathon of a World Cup tournament. However, short-priced favourite backers have already had several fingers burnt in this tournament and we are being asked to take 1/3 about Brazil here.

From a punting perspective, it’s probably a good thing that Brazil need to win this game if they are to give themselves the best possible chance of topping the group. Carlo Ancelotti isn’t going to be making sweeping changes, and that spells trouble for Scotland because they are going to need to come up with a defensive masterclass if they are to keep at bay the likes of Cunha, Vinicius Junior, Rayan et al.
While Scotland are well organised, they really do lack quality in the offensive third. Their main goal threat is undoubtedly Scott McTominay but even he hasn’t managed a single shot on target in this tournament so far.
The key question here is: Have Scotland got a goal in them? They are 10/11 with starsports.bet to score at least one goal, which is hardly surprising given what we’ve seen from Steve Clarke’s side so far. Leaning towards answering that question with a ‘no’ gives us a good angle into a bet for this game; we can boost the 1/3 win price about Brazil to 20/21 by backing Carlo Ancelotti’s side to take all three points without conceding.
