THE GREYHOUND WEEK BLOG: Julie Collier with all the latest news from the world of greyhound racing…..

➡️ Tonight, it’s the final of the Alconex Northern Puppy Derby at Newcastle. Levante Beach was, again, dominant in the semi-finals last week as he pinged the lids and led home Fight The Power by almost five lengths in 28.58sec. The Angela Harrison trained dog is favourite across the board to win the £8,000 decider this evening. He’s proved to be extremely consistent from the boxes at Newcastle, his early proving to be decisive. Jimmy Fenwick’s, Look Like Power obliged in the second semi-final beating Liosgarbh Prince comfortably (28.68sec) and Carol Weatherall’s Slide Away was victorious in the third semi, Easy Brexit qualifying in second (28.99sec). Levante Beach is a worthy 4/6 favourite to win the final. LATEST STARSPORTS.BET GREYHOUND MARKETS

➡️ Jimmy Fenwick must be absolutely loving life right now. His superstar, Ice On Fire was an easy winner in the first heat of the Laurels. He flew out of trap 1 and was quickly clear, beating Droopys Trapper by a massive six lengths in 28.19sec. Fenwick is flying right now and he also obliged in heat two with his Dily Dily beating Forest Jason (28.77sec). Fenwick decided to enter his bitch at the very last minute after she was eliminated in the Oaks semi-finals. In the third semi, Pat Rosney’s dog Bower Luke pinged the lids and matched the sectional set by Ice On Fire, eventually coming home in 28.63sec. Droopys Nadal qualified in behind. Ice On Fire is mega short at 4/9 to win the final, a true reflection on the sheer class of the dog. I am loving watching him, as I know many of your are too. LATEST STARSPORTS.BET GREYHOUND MARKETS

After riding trouble at the first bend, Jim was always doing enough to take the £2,500 prize ahead of Phil Simmonds youngster Waikiki Lad who looks a promising prospect. Roxholme Jim is priced at 80/1 for the Star Sports Derby and Waikiki Lad is 100/1 LATEST STARSPORTS.BET GREYHOUND MARKETS

➡️ The Olympic kicked off on Saturday night at Hove with Patrick Janssen’s Bockos Doomie the fastest winner (29.80sec) and now with a helpful trap 1 draw in the semis. ➡️ There was a very sad sub-story to the National Sprint semi-finals as the dog set to go off hot favourite for Monday’s final, Salacres Punch, sadly died on Tuesday. The Peter Harnden trained sprinter was reportedly fine after his semi where he clocked the fastest winning time of 17.54sec, winning by over four lengths. Peter knew something wasn’t right the next day so he rushed him to the vet but he sadly died from suspected pneumonia. Peter later tweeted to say how devastated he was and how much he loved Punch who he had reared at his kennels. All our thoughts at Star Sports are with connections. It’s leaves a five dog final at Nottingham on Monday, where Lambeth Way is the 11/8 favourite with Star Sports, Troy Bella is 2/1. LATEST STARSPORTS.BET GREYHOUND MARKETS

➡️ The banter around the Star Sports Derby has already started with less than four months to go before the start of the competition. Of course, it would be Mr Ian Fortune who landed the first blow with his tweet into RPGTV on Friday night saying ‘After the benefit of experience after this years English Derby, do you think the British could cause an upset by winning or even getting a runner in the frame in the 2020 running at Nottingham?!?!’ Amusing. Three words for you Ian… Ice. On. Fire. LATEST STARSPORTS.BET GREYHOUND MARKETS
