The Real McCoy (apologies for headline)

THAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH BEING CALLED McCOY….

What other headline CAN you use ???

The phrase “The real McCoy” is a corruption of the Scots “The real MacKay”, first recorded in 1856 as: “A drappie o’ the real MacKay,” (A drop of the real MacKay).

Two things are certain. When McCoy hits the 4,000 landmark, probably today at Towcester, he won’t be touching a drop of any MacKay, real or not, as he is tee-total.

And secondly, he’ll be as relieved as anyone to get the media off his back and get back to doing what he enjoys best – riding winners whether it be at Plumpton on a wet Monday or at the Cheltenham Festival.

Church Field (2pm) and Mountain Tunes (3.10pm), are his two runners today with the betting preferring the latter.

McCoy said: “It would be great if Mountain Tunes or Church Field could win today. Jonjo and JP have been so supportive and we’ve had such good days together, that would put the icing on the cake.

Just about everyone is hoping he does it today. The only exception being the courses due to stage meetings in the next couple of days !

A massive crowd is expected at Towcester today to witness what will become a day in racing history.

But you can’t help thinking that Towcester might just be regretting their free admission policy today.

Mountain Tunes for me. And then I’ll settle back and count the number of Real McCoy headlines tomorrow.

The waste costs Β£12.5bn a year despite a significant drive to reduce the problem, a report by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (Wrap) said.

The equivalent of 24 million slices of bread, 5.8 million potatoes and 5.9 million glasses of milk are thrown away every day, while 86 million whole chickens are discarded every year.
