TRADER CHAT Q&A: The Open with GLENN DAY

TRADER CHAT: We caught up with starsports.bet Head of Golf GLENN DAY ahead of this year’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush…

⭐ LATEST STARSPORTS.BET MARKET & SPECIALS ON THE OPEN

❓ What do you think the key is to winning The Open this year?

πŸ—£οΈ “With the slightly unpredictable weather forecast and the inconsistency of links courses, staying patient and waiting for your chances will be key. Good driving and a good week around the greens will always help. I don’t think the score will be as low as Shane Lowry’s 15 under, so hanging around for a few days and being in position on day four will be what most players are looking for.”

❓ Which market leaders are most dangerous for Star this week?

πŸ—£οΈ “The 2 players at the front of the market, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy have been friendless so far, which has been reflected on the exchanges. Our biggest liability so far is Englishman Tyrrell Hatton (pictured below), who was 6th here in 2019. Jon Rahm is the more popular selection at the front of the market but not overly so to date.”

❓ Which markets are your favourite price up?

πŸ—£οΈ “I enjoy pricing all the derivative markets, Tournament Winning Score and the Tournament Handicap being two of my favourites.”

❓ There are rumours of potential thunderstorms on Thursday. Will you be waiting until closer for a more accurate weather forecast before placing bets?

πŸ—£οΈ “Although there is a forecast of rain, thunderstorms in places, I think it is the wind that has a bigger impact on links events. The forecast is for fairly consistent winds from Thursday onwards, so I wouldn’t be overly concerned with the draw at this stage.”

❓ Are there any outsiders that you think could outrun their odds at Royal Portrush?

πŸ—£οΈ “There doesn’t seem to be the depth in some of the tournaments these days and consequently, not too many outsiders take my eye. One player that has recently though is Kristoffer Reitan. He won on the DP World Tour a couple of months ago when winning the Soudal Open in Belgium on the back of a final round 9 under par 61 and a little help from Ewen Ferguson. He has played consistently well since with 4 Top 13 finishes, including two Top 5s and finished T13th at last week’s Scottish Open to show he can be competitive on links courses. At the age of 27 he may be about to realise his potential and could go well this week at odds of around 200/1.”

❓ Do you think there are any big names/top players who may struggle this week?

πŸ—£οΈ “The enigmatic Bryson DeChambeau is the obvious one at the front of the market. You never quite know what you are going to get from the big-hitting American despite being a two-time major champion. His Open record does not read well with only one finish inside the Top 30 in seven attempts, and that was at the easiest of all the Open venues at St Andrews. I am keen to take him on. I will also throw in the likes of Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, who should all be in the first 10 in the betting but for various reasons have played well below their capabilities for a while now.”

❓ How do you expect the in-play betting to develop? Is there the possibility for an off-the-pace winner depending on circumstances?

πŸ—£οΈ “With some unpredictable weather, hopefully no one will get the rub of the green on all 4 days, if you’ll pardon the pun! And it will keep things close/competitive. There is nothing better than an Open Championship with 6 or more players in the reckoning for the Claret Jug coming down the stretch, and obviously that also helps with business!”=

❓ What are some unique promotions that Star Sports offer for The Open?

πŸ—£οΈ “We will be running our usual major offer β€˜Missed The Cut’, where if your selected player misses the halfway cut you will receive 50% of your win stake back as a free bet (up to Β£100). We will also have a selection of different markets, all of which can be found by visiting our site.”
