We caught up with trader JOHN BRACKENRIDGE to get a trading angle ahead of the World Snooker Championship…

💬 For you, what makes The World Championship different from all the other Tournaments?

“Well, for starters, it is the World Championship, the history that surrounds it, the venue and the one they all want to win. Unlike other tournaments, it is played across multiple sessions with best of 19+ frames as opposed to other tournaments. 17 consecutive days of Snooker to enjoy is a fans dream.”

💬 What is your favourite World Championship memory?

Not specifically one match in particular but having been a few times my favourite memory would be being there for the first time back in 2012. I think we watched Ryan Day vs Cao Yupeng which wasn’t the most glamorous of ties but being in Sheffield at this time of year and at the Crucible, it really does feel magic.”

💬 Which players could go well this year and why?

Kyren Wilson. He won the Masters having had a tricky first half of the season with cue issues but was brilliant at the Ally Pally which I was lucky enough to see him play in the flesh. Won this 2 years ago and I believe ”The Warrior” was made for this format. No easy games these days but he has got about as favourable section as you can have and avoids the 21/10 hot favourite and defending champion Zhao Xintong until at least the final.

“Perhaps chancing Jak Jones at a bigger price (60/1) could give a run for your money, a former runner up to Kyren Wilson back in 2024, he negotiated the toughest of qualifying sections beating Marco Fu & Luca Brecel to get to Sheffield. Jones has to negotiate a tricky opening match with Mark Selby but were he to do so he could produce a run in the longer format that he loves.”

💬 Who are you comfortable to lay this year and why?

“Our biggest liability and one we have been happy to lay is Ronnie O’Sullivan (13/2), whilst you cannot write off the greatest of all time and 7 times champion he hasn’t played a lot this season and was as big as 12/1 with us before finding some form when runner up of the World Open back in March. I think he still has some questions to answer.

“We have boosted Judd Trump to 6/1 (from 5/1) to win the Tournament. Not had the year he would have wanted only winning a solitary title, whilst he has got to the back end of lots of tournaments he isn’t dominating like he did for so many years. Happy to take him on in what is perhaps not his most favourable tournament – 1 solitary win back in 2019.”

💬 Any markets, specials or offers to look out for at Star?

As well as all the usual markets we will have tournament & daily boosts as well as various special markets. We also have an offer whereby if you bet £20 (or £10ew) on the Tournament Winner market before the first match you get a £10 free acca to use on the First Round matches.”
