SILVESTRE DE SOUSA: Glorious Goodwood Wednesday

A quiet day for me on the second day of Goodwood’s Festival with only the two rides which come in the first and the last. I guess there will be a lot of sitting around and maybe an opportunity to catch up on some sleep. I will keep half an eye open just in case any spares come along…

I’ve also recorded a Zoom Room preview – CLICK HERE WEDNESDAY’S ZOOM PREVIEW (STARTS AT 14 minutes 22 seconds)

WEDNESDAY

GLORIOUS GOODWOOD

INVERNESS – 1.50pm (Nicholson Gin Handicap)

I kick day two off aboard Inverness for Charlie Hills and this will be the first time I have sat on the horse. He chased home Coroebus on his first racecourse start last summer and ended off his two-year-old career winning here at Goodwood which is a positive. Having disappointed in one of the Derby Trials on his reappearance he’s gradually been stepped up in distance finishing a good third at Ascot earlier this month over two furlongs further. Whether the drop back in trip suits remains to be seen, but he is a proper stayer who will run all the way to the line. Secret State won well at Royal Ascot and looks the one to beat again.

3.00pm (Markel Molecomb Stakes)

No ride for me in the Molecomb but I will be watching on to see how Walbank gets on with interest. I rode him when he ran out an impressive winner at York back in May and he was another that was done no favours by The Ridler at Ascot last time. He’s a colt I rate highly and reckon he will give favourite Rocket Rodney plenty to think about.

3.35pm (Qatar Sussex Stakes)

The big race of the day and we get another chance to see Baaeed (pictured below) back in action after his brilliant win in the Queen Anne. He is probably the best miler in the world, and it would be a huge shock if he were beaten here. I’d say Alcohol Free, last year’s winner, is the most likely to chase him home.

STOCKPYLE – 5.20pm

I’d like to have been putting these colours on last Saturday! Obviously, Stockpyle carries the same colours as King George-winning stablemate Pyledriver and hopefully the stable’s winning streak will continue. This fella has been in real good form of late though winning a couple this month already. I was on him when he finished a good fourth at Newbury and he should go well despite going up in the weights.

Good Luck
