ROYAL ASCOT DAY 2

AUTHOR: Star Sports Content

Exclusive: OISIN MURPHY Royal Ascot Preview | WEDNESDAY

👑 The first day was always going to be tough for me as I said. I thought Buckaroo was my best chance of a winner. He ran really well to be third but just didn’t see it out and when I turned into the straight I wasn’t really holding on to much. My day started on Berkshire Shadow (pictured below) who followed up his good run in the Lockinge with a creditable fifth in the Queen Anne.

So, now for the second day and another good book of rides to look forward to ….

OUT OF THE STARS
2.30pm Queen Mary Stakes

I kick the day off aboard Out Of The Stars ? for Archie Watson in the Queen Mary Stakes. She won on her debut at Kempton and has been specifically trained for this race. We are drawn in seven and I’m conscious that the American fillies are all drawn high to my left – they will be the obvious pace in the race. I do think Out Of The Stars has a lot of ability and I’m hoping to keep her relaxed as she has a little bit of temperament and can be high spirited. I’m hopeful she can run a massive race. Look out for Andrew Balding’s Flora Of Bermuda who is still a maiden, but is a filly I’ve lots of time for too.

QUEEN MARY MARKET

LADY EROS
3.05pm Kensington Palace Fillies Handicap

It’s only the second year of this race and last year was a very good fight in the finish between Neil Callan and Saffie Osborne. I ride Lady Eros ? here who is drawn in stall one and I feel has the right profile for the race. We are obviously on the round course so I might have to navigate my way through – things could get a little congested I’d have thought. Hopefully I can follow the right horses through though. Frankie rides the favourite Tamarama here for Ralph Beckett. I was impressed with her gate speed at Kempton last time where she went a good gallop and just kept going, I’d imagine they’ll try and do the same again. Crystal Caprice is drawn beside them and is another likely to be bang there. I do like Lady Eros though and I’m hopeful she can go well off a nice weight.

KENSINGTON PALACE MARKET

3.40pm Duke Of Cambridge Stakes

No ride for me here, but these are my views on the race…

DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE MARKET

4.20pm Prince Of Wales’s Stakes – Group One

Another race to watch from the weighing room… watch my thoughts on the race below….

PRINCE OF WALES’S STAKES MARKET

GHALY
5.00pm Royal Hunt Cup

It’s great to be asked to ride Ghaly ? for Saeed Bin Suroor and his team in the Royal Hunt Cup. They have targeted this race for some time and he’s a lovely ride to pick up. I’m drawn over the far side in eight and it’s a bit early to start guessing whether that’s the right place to be or not. At a bigger price Aerion Power can go well for Sir Michael Stoute, Harry Davies and King Power. The horse has the right type of profile as he’s a little bit unexposed. It really is hard to tell though as there are so many unexposed classy types dipping their toes into handicap company.

ROYAL HUNT CUP MARKET

SAINT GEORGE
5.35pm Queen’s Vase

The Queen’s Vase is a race I’ve won before, and I know it well. You start just in front of the winning post and position is key early. You need to try and break cleanly as once they turn down the back its hard to make up any ground. Gregory is an improving horse with the right profile. He’s a son of Golden Horn and will be ridden by Frankie. He deserved a rating of 110 and will be tough to beat. I like my mount Saint George ? as he’s improving, and we have been happy with his work at home. He didn’t beat a lot in Doncaster but he’ll get the trip well as he’s a straightforward horse to ride. Look out for Joseph O’Brien who saddles three in here. He targets this race and does well at this sort of distance with unexposed three-year-olds.

QUEEN’S VASE MARKET

BARNWELL BOY
6.10pm Windsor Castle Stakes

One of my best chances on day two could well be Barnwell Boy ? in the last…

WINDSOR CASTLE MARKET

Good luck – I’ll be back with my Thursday blog.
