PRESS RELEASE: Gary Lineker poised for move into politics
Well-known sports presenter and football pundit Gary Lineker has been tipped to make a shock move into politics after he parts ways with the BBC on Sunday, according to Star Sports.
Lineker is 20/1 to stand to become a Member of Parliament at the next General Election, with odds of 33/1 for him to become leader of any political party by the end of 2026.
William Kedjanyi, Political Betting Analyst at Star Sports, said: “Gary Lineker will be splitting from his longstanding partnership with the BBC on Sunday, and taking on a role in politics doesn’t seem to be too far a stretch for him in the future.
“We’ve got Lineker at 20/1 to stand to become an MP at the next General Election, while we’re 33/1 about him becoming leader of any political party by the end of 2026.
“Although it’s more likely he’ll be presenting the World Cup 2026 for ITV (3/1) or appear in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! 2025 (8/1), he’s priced at 100/1 to become London Mayor in 2026, with the top job at 10 Downing Street a serious longshot at 200/1.”
